14 Jan Kiminini Kona Community Water Supply
The project has been funded by the national government with funds provided in support of rural water supply program to rehabilitate and augment Kiminini Kona Community water project. The works will include Construction of three water springs, two Water Kiosks, laying of pipeline and construction of two Masonry tanks of 50M3 at strategic locations within the targeted community to ensure maximum number of people are accessed. Currently, the community depends on untreated water from boreholes and water from roof catchment facilities in schools within the locality.
While addressing the community during the groundbreaking ceremony, Bungoma County Women representative Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi decried the high prevalence of waterborne diseases in the community caused majorly by lack of clean drinking water. The community, she said, predominantly depended on open water sources whose safety was not guaranteed. She thanked the Government of Kenya and the management of Lake Victoria North Water Services Board for financing the project and expressed optimism that when completed, the prevalence of water borne diseases will definitely drop.
The Chief Executive Officer Dr. George Kwedho thanked the Women representative for her focus in development in the county. He acknowledged that the project was an initiative of the women rep. He asked the residents to always lend support to development conscious leaders like her. He promised that the Board will continue sourcing for funding to expand water supply in the rural areas which in most cases are overlooked by major development partners.
The project is expected to be complete in the next three months.
